living in oregon has turned me into a weirdo

i'm really beginning to like the look of dreads. quite a bit actually. i'm not sure i have it in me to wear them myself. but maybe i'll mature into it. :) i've been looking for a picture to show you the look i'm thinking of, but all the people on the internet look rather freakish. i have in mind something much more normal looking. update: i just read all the info on that site and got rather intimidated.

White folks don't look good in them the scalp is too white! We were talking about that at work and folks do that so they don't have to wash their hair. YIKES

yeah, all the pictures i could find didn't have the people wearing the head band/hat thing that i like. and that site i was reading said the not washing hair thing is actually a myth - cause if you don't wash your hair it won't "lock" properly and it stinks. they have special dread shampoo.

Anessa over at A Sparkle in the Jar - http://asparkleinthejar.blogspot.com/ - had blonde dreads for a while and I thought they looked cute.

It sounds like you need a change. We've talked about another piercing, tatoos and new hairstyles. Go for it if it sounds interesting to you, although the site you gave a link to said you might only have 2 inches of hair left if you ever decide to get rid of them. It would be fun to look back at pictures of your dreads and say, look what I did in 2006. Cool!

I looked at Anessa's dreads (January 2006 archive of her blog), and they're not too bad. I think my mom is thinking of corn rows more than dreads. I would worry about the stink--but you said it wouldn't stink--and having to cut them off in the end. Random thought--remember when I cut your hair at church?

I think you could look cute! The only thing I would say is, especially for white people, it is a pretty big commitment of time and effort and care - and you will pretty much have to cut off your hair when you are done to start over. But, you would look good with short hair too, anyway! :) Go for it!
BTW, I don't think you are becoming a wierdo...
