now accepting sleep theories

in case you missed it in just about every other post i've written lately, isaiah is just not sleeping. i cannot figure out how to get him to sleep. he's getting progressively worse - he used to do a long stretch right when you put him down at night - like 5 or 6 hours. and now that's gone. then he'd wake up every three hours. then every two. now it's around every one and a half. and he's not making up for it in the day - most he sleeps in the day is an hour or so at a time 2 or 3 times. and that's on a good day. so any theories on helping him sleep longer? before you start - he puts himself to sleep already, i don't nurse him to sleep, except in the middle of the night. and then he's usually eating for 15-20 minutes, so i think he's actually hungry, not just using me. okay, go ahead and give em to me.

How is he doing health wise? is he still gaining weight? Can you ask the DR for suggestions? could he be cold? hot? at night? what if you play some music quietly by his crib.
When he wakes up after an hour and a half, does he seem alert or like something has interrupted his sleep. How long before he goes back to sleep. Is he still cutting lots of teeth right now?
this is worse since he has been sick... is he having trouble breathing? if he is what about tilting his crib up by putting some books or something under the front legs. So his head is elevated... Is he having digestion problems?? does he wake up crying? are his diapers wet or dry? does he have bad diaper rash?
Ok I think i am out of questions/ideas

hmmm...healthwise he is sick with a cold for the last two days - but he's been doing this for several weeks.

he doesn't seem hot or cold - i haven't tried music yet- that's a thought.

he's sorta alert - he's happy to see me and then he closes his eyes right away when he starts nursing. usually about 10-15 minutes he's done and back in bed. no, he's not cutting any teeth right now. no diaper rash, andhe's not crying so much as trying to get my attention and come get him.

It could be an earache, they don't run temps with earaches all the time. Other than that, just let him cry himself back to sleep, this will last for a few night but will end.

Have you tried his carseat? That has always worked in the past...
