oprah is freaking me out. she's talking about sex offenders today and implying if not actually saying that most are repeat offenders - which means that they're registered and their neighbors just don't know. so i went online and looked up our county and there are three people living in our town within a mile or so. what do you do with that? you can't just live terrified. but how do you be aware and responsible and safe?
freaking out.

I don't know--maybe just do the usual things like locking your doors, carrying mace, etc.???
Do they have photos posted online? The registries in my neighborhood have photos, so I just checked to see what people looked like.
I would say that the repeaters are probably more likely to be unregistered than registered, so chances are that that site doesn't tell you too much. Probably also good to keep in mind the car accident statistics - I think that puts a lot of other statistics in perspective for me.
i'm under the impression that registration is a non-negotiable...like the parole officer does it for you kinda thing...?
Sometimes, I think. The problem in Louisiana now is that all of those offenders down south evacuated and are now unregistered up here. It is against the law to not register, but I'm sure there are those who somehow fly under the radar.
